EPF supports Christian Peace Witness to
BUILD
a Continuous Prayer Vigil
A FAITH BASED PUBLIC WITNESS AND VIGIL
CPWI will launch a continuous
prayer vigil September 16th. We invite all people of faith to join the
prayer vigil.
Resources: Prayers, Planning a Prayer Vigil and a sample prayer vigil
Why a ceaseless prayer vigil? We choose to
pray continually: Because we believe that prayer changes us and our world, and gives
us hope and strength to continue working for peace.
What might this public witness, this ceaseless prayer vigil, look
like? Plan a witness that
works specifically for you and your community: You may choose to pray individually; with others from your church,
mosque or synagogue, or during your already scheduled community peace vigil;
You may choose one 24-day for prayer OR a particular day of each
week, OR one day per month; You may choose to work with a group you already
know or create a new group;
The focus we share is to pray for peace in Iraq ; you may choose your local community focus (gun-violence,
racism, immigration, etc).
Already have events planned for September? don’t
know if you can fit in another thing…sign up your event on our web site and ask your
participants to pray during the witness, in fact your public witness is a
prayer for peace.
So, how do we sign up? Very soon (August 15th)
CPWI will have the new web site up and ready to take registrations: the address is www.christianpeacewitness.org. We
will ask for your name, e-mail address, a short description of your event,
vigil, or individual prayer, time, date, and place. When individuals sign
up we will ask for your name, e-mail and city, state and denomination.
LAUNCH WEEK: September 16th
– 23rd.
CPWI would like to have at least 25 places across the country committed to
begin the Continuous Prayer Vigil. As you know, that is the same week of
the International Day of Peace (21st), the same week that
Declaration of Peace will be working for vigils and many other groups, what a
wonderful time to pray without ceasing!
