About
JACK Gessell:
The
Rev. John M. Gessell long time EPF member and supporter was chair of the
Episcopal Peace Fellowship’s National Executive Council from 1980-83. In 1994 he was the John Nevin Sayer Awardee
(Sayer was the founder of EPF and every General Convention EPF honors one of
their members who has most followed in the footsteps of Sayer). Gessell was awarded B.A., B.D. and Ph.D.
degrees from Yale University and served in parishes in the dioceses of Southern
Virginia and Massachusetts. In 1984 Gessell retired from the School of Theology at Sewanee, after serving 20 years
as professor of Christian ethics. He is the author of Grace and Obedience, a
collection of theological essays published by Proctor's Hall Press. Written
over the past four decades, Gessell's essays address social and justice issues. Dr. Gessell has brought many a seminarian into the membership of EPF.
Dinner
Speaker: Kathleen Williams: Current president and Executive
Director of the Tennessee Parks and Greenways
Foundation: a small grants program which helped launch several educational
campaigns to teach others to conserve the land and taught the value of our
state parks to elected officials when the state parks were in danger of being
close. Kathleen has a long history of involvement with conservation
organizations such as Tn, Parks and Greenways Foundation, National Wildlife
Federation and the Sierra Club.

Sam Hensley: Washington, DC-based
singer/songwriter Eliza Lynn: Asheville, NC – based
singer/songwriter,
Both Sam and Eliza individually have produced two independent albums, appeared
on several regional and national compilations, and won awards in regional
songwriting contests.

Spiritual Practices For Activists with Nancy Rickenbach, a Quaker and Peace activist and a founding member
of the EPF/Scope chapter in Sevierville.
Nancy is a retired high school teacher and a member of the Seymour
Worship Group which is interfaith and follows the tradition of Quaker silent
worship.
The
Greening of The Church - Practicial Ways to Model A Caring Relationship With
The Earth
with Glenda Keyes, for many years a Catholic nun in the
Phillipines. Glenda has been Executive Director of the Knoxville office of
Peace, Justice and the Integrity of Creation in Knoxville Tn. and now works for
the Interfaith Power and Light Company.
The
Story of The Universe and Our Role Within It with Marcus Keyes, former priest
in the Phillipines. Marcus was also involved with JPIC and is now with
the Glenmary Sisters doing peace and justice work. Both Glenda and Marcus have
studied with Father Thomas Berry a Passionist priest and father of the New
Story movement in religious ecology. Glenda and Marcus live at Narrow
Ridge Earth Literacy Center in Washburn Tn. an alternative
energy and intentional community devoted to sustainable living
Working
on Water with Katy Hinman, the executive
director of Georgia Interfaith Power & Light, a non-profit that engages
communities of faith in stewardship of God's Creation as a direct reflection of
our faithfulness through worship, education, and the sustainable generation and
efficient use of energy. Katy earned her PhD in Ecology and Evolution at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2003,
and got a Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in May 2006. She is a candidate for
ordination in the United Methodist Church .
